January 29th, 2022. 9:30am – 12:30pm ESt

The paradox of trauma is that it has both the power to destroy and the power to transform and resurrect

Peter A. Levine

This workshop will provide participants 3 CE hours approved by the NBCC. Utilizing both didactic learning and experiential activities, participants will learn to develop sensory informed strategies for use with their own clinical application.
Beginning with an overview of the prevalence of trauma, we will briefly review the seminal ACE’s studies. A brief history of trauma theory, as it applies to normative attachment, will be reviewed, including an overview of Harlow’s monkeys and Bowlby’s theory of attachment. Next, participants will receive an overview of neural development as it applies to trauma, looking specifically at Bruce Perry’s theory of bottom-up and top-down regulation strategies. The impact of sensory activities on the brain will be explored in relationship to areas of brain functioning. Sensory systems will be identified, and participants will review a sensory intervention plan in preparation for application in their practice.
